I worked with Charlotte as a social work consultant. She was kind, caring and looked out for all of us in the team. She absolutely adored her children and husband, you could just tell by the way her eyes lit up when she talked about them. She was so proud of them. She was incredibly dedicated to the social work cause. She supported so many workers new and experienced to try and get through what is an impossible job in child protection. Her knowledge of adoption was so good, I loved listening to her when we delivered some training together. She had a cracking streak of sarcasm and loved a sweary rant…I would look for her in the office for those! Sometimes no words were needed just an exchange of looks! I appreciated her wit very much. She will be very missed 💛 love to Paul, Martha and Kit xx

Memories of Charlotte We first met Charlotte in 1996 when we went to visit Paul and Charlotte who were at Uni in Hull… we had a fun night out there culminating in eating chips and gravy together all nicely sloshed in the early hours!! We have laughed a lot over the years!! She always got the crown for being the best when we “played lookalikes” …. A remarkable ability! We are part of the same family, yes but we are friends too….. She has always been an amazing support to our family in many ways. Her compassion, empathy and understanding has been given to us in abundance….. how we will miss this…. She has been a great support to us through difficult times with her knowledge, wisdom, empathy and understanding and true ability to listen, share and empathise…. A rare quality…. But she definitely had it. I will always remember those big and meaningful conversations and quite how much they meant. Another stand out memory is when Paul and Charlotte came to stay with us when we lived in Recreation Road in Bromley…. When we were all about 30 years old. We had a hilarious night drinking and ended up all dancing around the living room into the early hours to Chas n Dave of all things!!!! They had a flight to Prague the next day but we all overslept and they missed their flight!! Blame Chas n Dave for that mishap…. The first time that we took Robbie (our eldest son with autism) to visit them in Sheffield, Charlotte put together a book of photos for him to look at before so that he could be prepared. She sent me a little mini photo album in the post in advance so that I could prepare him… how thoughtful and special! These things mean so much! Not the sort of thing most people do but Charlotte had a special insight and empathy which helped us more than she would have realised…. Even when we went to see Charlotte in the hospice, her eye for an opportunity to show her trademark trait of disapproval combined with humour did not desert her as she commented on the fact that I (Mike) was carrying a ‘poncey make’ man-bag. Just brilliant! We all laughed lots together even at that point… I have read back on some of the many WhatsApp messages between us and they have made me smile, laugh and cry…. Her passion and strength of feeling was quite evident… However, some of them would definitely be unrepeatable here! Charlotte’s passion for what is right and looking after the vulnerable was a beautiful trait …. We need more people with that outlook in this world…. She will be missed terribly…. RIP dear Charlotte – you lived a good life, you knew sorrow and pain but you really really knew great great joy and deep love and you gave so VERY much to those you cared for and of course most of all, those that you loved –your beautiful family… who are your legacy…. Thank you for all that you gave us. We will miss you and we will all treasure our personal special memories of the way that you touched our lives and impacted us in a special and unique way… Leila, Mike, Robbie and Daniel Seeney 5th October 2024

I regularly sat on a Sheffield Adoption panel with Charlotte a number of years ago, as an adopter. I grew fond of Charlotte and feel very sad to hear of her illness and that she is no longer with us. I enjoyed her lively, thoughtful and generous spark (with a hint of mischief). She made it clear she valued my perspectives, even when we didn't agree!. I know she really appreciated those years sitting on panel and I was happy to hear she was Chair on a panel elsewhere when I saw her more recently. I am glad to have known her a little and I am thinking of her family.

Charlotte had a huge impact on my early career when she was my Social Work Consultant. I started my role as a social worker feeling very anxious and ‘out of my depth’, but Charlotte was such a grounding person to be around. She always managed to help me stay calm when I was tempted to panic. She also had a great sense of humour and I remember laughing a lot during our supervisions which was such a welcome relief in an otherwise stressful job. She always saw my strengths and made sure these were always celebrated to support my confidence. I’m not sure if I would have continued in the career I now love were it not for Charlotte’s support during those early months. I will always remember her for being one of the most supportive, grounded and funny women I knew. I will miss her immensely but the impact she has had on my life will continue for a long time. I will always be so grateful to have had Charlotte in my life.

When I first started in the team, Charlotte would send me little weekly 'check in' emails to see how I was settling in. Such a small and thoughtful gesture really did make such a huge difference to me at quite a daunting time. Something Charlotte will have recognised. I didn't get to work with Charlotte for very long but it was evident how smart, funny and well liked she was.

I am I and you are you, whatever we were to each other that we still are. Speak to me in the easy way which you always used. Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight? Life means all that it ever meant, it is the same as it ever was.
